Pay it Forward

I'm excited to participate in the Pay it Forward exchange! I found out about this on Kristin's blog and I think it's a great idea!

The idea of the exchange is I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on this blog post requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet, and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog. You don't have to knit, any handmade item will be great.

Coming from me, your gift could be almost anything handmade! I so look forward to coming up with something just for you. So play along and post a comment! It makes no difference what part of the world you live in either. I'll contact the winners by email and then get their addresses then.

Now that it is getting cooler here, it makes me think of apple picking and hay rides. Are you the type that likes to go to participate in all the fall festivities like apple picking, pumpkins, decorating for the fall, hay rides, baking fall goodies, etc. or do you just sit and count the days till Thanksgiving/Christmas/Hanukkah?
I love to go to the Fall Bazaars. They have good food and you can usually find some unique gifts for Christmas.

Fall into Autumn topic #4

How about you? Are there any recipes you especially enjoy having in the Fall? Any foods that are seasonal that you especially enjoy? I love pumpkin pie but I do not make from scratch. I like a big bowl of homemade vegetable beef soup.

My Homemade Vegetable Beef Soup Serves a jillion

1 lb. beef (I buy sirloin and cut into small cubes)
1 large can tomatoes (28 oz?)
1 large potato diced
2 carrots sliced
1 medium onion chopped
2 stalks celery diced
1 head cabbage chopped
1 can green peas
1 can green beans
1 can corn
In large stock pot (mine is about 15 inches high) add a little oil and heat. Add the beef and brown. Add the tomatoes, breaking them up and 2 cups of water. Simmer for an hour. Prepare all the fresh veggies in this time. Add to pot and cover with water and let simmer for 3-4 hours.
Add the different cans of veggies and season to taste. Cook for about 30 more minutes. This makes an enormous pot of soup, but freezes well.

Last Homecoming Mum

My DS is a senior this year, so this is the last homecoming mum I will have to make. These are serious time consumers, but he has always wanted me to make them. I guess mine must be pretty unique because he had girls asking to homecoming for the mum. LOL I hope his girl friend likes it.

Autumn has now officially begun here in the States!! What is your favorite thing about Autumn/Fall? Why?

It doesn't really feel like Fall here until November. It is still 90 degrees out. What I like about Fall is the evenings being cooler and in the early morning it feels fresh outside. We don't have alot of changing colors, but what we do have is very pretty

Fall into Autumn topic #2

When you knit or crochet dishcloths, washcloths or face clothes, what do you use? What size needle or hook? Wood? what type? Metal? Plastic? A specific Brand? Why do you love that needle or hook so much? Is there one you are dying to try? Is there a particular yarn you love and use all the time for cloths? What is so special about it?

I have a couple of sets of needles that I like to use. One is an old set of Boye needles in plastic (maybe Balene 1) and the other is a set of rosewood needles from Turn-of-the -Century in size 8.I love both of them greatly. I usually use Sugar and Cream for kitchen cloths and Luna by Cascade for face cloths. I received a skein of Peaches and Cream from DDOS swap and it seems to be very similar to S&C. I would love to try any other cottons out there.

Fall into Autumn topic

Now that in some geographic locations the weather is starting to turn cooler, do you change the type of yarn(s) you knit/crochet with? If so, what do you now knit/crochet with instead and why? If not, why do you not switch and what do you knit/crochet with?
I do not change the yarns I knit/crochet with the seasons. I just do smaller projects in the summer. No heavy sweaters or afghans.

What finger are you???

You Are a Ring Finger

You are romantic, expressive, and hopeful. You see the best in everything.
You are very artistic, and you see the world as your canvas. You are also drawn to the written word.
Inventive and unique, you are often away in your own inner world.

You get along well with: The Pinky
