I finished the quilt top and made the backing for my Jan. UFO. I have sent it off to the quilter. Not too bright me did not take any pictures before hand. I hope it does not take too long and maybe I will have a picture before the end of the month.

Here are a few more of my favorites. I love these, but I also love the ones from DQS8. I like all kinds of quilts. I like the quilts made from traditional blocks as well as the art type quilts. My favorite colors are always changing. I love the look of the aqua and orange quilts, green is always a winner with me(not wild about neon colors) and I love the red, pink, aqua group. I hope you will make a quilt that you would want to keep.

Amy at Park City Girl is having a virtual quilt show. I thought I might join in this time. Make sure you hop on over and look at all the beautiful quilts being shown. This is a quilt I made for my son's 20th birthday. It is in his school colors and there are not any girly black and white fabrics(a very real challenge). This quilt was quilted by Russ and Rhonda at Back Porch Quilts. This was a momentous time for me as I now do not have a teenager anymore. He wasn't sure whether he liked it or not til he took it to school and all the girls ooh and aah over his quilt. I have since gotten several thanks, mom for the quilt and I love its.

A few new things

I am in a group on Ravelry called the Pin cushion group. We make and swap pin cushions and other fun things. Right now a few of us are doing quilting bees. We are in hives of four and will swap 2 blocks with each and then mix up the people and have new hives. We each sent some fabric to the others and an idea about what kind of blocks we might want. I am in the Wagglers of Hive C. I received my first blocks from Linda. I love them.
I am also in a group that swaps wee tiny socks. They are so much fun and I recieved a great package from another Linda. There were a lot of firsts for her. First sock, first stitch markers, some of her first spindle spun yarn. Really a great package.

I am in the Wee Tiny Sock Club. June's wee sock is a pretty wedding sock. These are so addictive to knit as they only take a small amount of yarn and there is no chance of SSS as you only need to knit one.

I have knitted, sewed and quilted a few things this year. Actually, quite a few, but I will just show you a few from lately. First up is a doll I made for Craft Hope . They were collecting to take on a mission trip.
Next is a nun doll and a pug puppy I made for the dollywood swap on Ravelry pincushion group

Next up is the quilt I made for earthquake children of Abruzzo. Definitely needed to be cowboy fabric if it was coming from Texas.
I hope to be better about posting. We have finally finished all the repairs from Hurricane Ike and now we can start on some home updating. I hope 2009 is treating you well.

A while back I won a contest on KT's blog. Picture above is what I won. Pictured below is all the packages she sent. I was thrilled to open the box and see all these pretty wrapped packages.

I am over whelmed by KT generosity. She not only sent the yarn I won, but two more skeins of STR in my favorite colors, 20 skeins of purple Debbie Bliss cotton cashmere and 10 skeins of Rowan 4 ply cotton in the prettiest red. Pin Cushion Swap

I am in a pin cushion swap on Ravelry. This is the wonderful pacage I received from PoMoGolightly. She went well beyond what was necessary. She sent a gorgeous pin cushion made with some had dyed wool felt that looks like water. She added some felted balls for the leaves. I am going to enjoy using this. She also made a great bag that I plan on using for my knitting. She sent yarn, fat quarters and quilting supplies. All great things. She found and sent some neat post cards that show where she lives. It looks like a wonderful area to live in. Thank you Beverly for the best package.

I love these socks. They really fit well.
I don't use a particular pattern. I used a basic sock pattern with 64 stitches and did a K3P1 rib instead of stockinette.
Three hats for Texas Children's hospital. I love making these little hats. They are my need to finish something item lately. The two striped hats are made with Knitcol yarn from Adriafil. The pink hat is a Knit Picks cotton blend.

I am still working on Casablanca but I am hopelessly behind. I am on clue 4 and the current clue is clue 6. Oh well, I love it and I will just finish in my own time frame. I hope you all are having a great week.

Life has just been crazy (and I have been lazy). I was going to post several times but of course I could not find the card reader to upload my photos. I have been knitting some and quilting some. A few pictures of what I have been working on.

Casablanca KAL This is after Clue 2. I am almost done with clue 3 I decided to make it longer.
Amandajean's Star Quilt Along This is nine of the blocks. I have finished 11 blocks and 6 setting blocks.
This was my Batik Block of the Month. I am waiting on the finishing kit.

This is Block 1 of the Mystery Designer block of the month from Fat Quarter Shop.

I received my birthday swap package from Kim W. in Canada today. I could not wait for Friday, so I opened. I got some great Cherry Tree Hill yarn, some wind gummy candies, wasabi coated peas(spicy and good) knitting gauge, pins and the cutest salt and pepper folk are bird shakers.There also is the cutest cupcake candle. Short Camp Post

The Ronnie-Frieda Swap

Ronnie was my downstream partner from Monkey swap 3. She and I have become good friends. Too bad we live in different countries, but maybe some day I will get to visit her. We had been talking back and forth about swaps and how sometimes you just really get the short end of the stick and she and I decided to do our own swap between the two of us. Ronnie said she got to go first, so away she went. Take a close look at all the great things she sent. She knit BFF socks for me in cashmere and knit the beautiful shawl from cashmere. They are both great. She sent some cashmere/silk lace yarn and some fun cashmere/merino sock yarn. She sent a set of needles that were the kind she learned to knit on when she was quite young. I don't know how she knew I liked collecting all kinds of needles(new and old) If you look at the pictures you can see all the other great things she sent including the Christmas bag she made for me. I got my package from my pal Diane today. It is one of the most thoughtful packages I have received. A beautiful wash cloth and a scrubby knit from organic cotton yarn. Very soft and the colors are really pretty. Yummy smelling soap from Alaska.I really like all the local items she included, North Pole Alaska Santa's blend coffee and Alaska Wild Tea. I can't wait to try these out. She sent yarn, yummy yarn. I have been wanting to try out the Lion Brand Organic Cotton. She sent the pattern she used for the cloth, some chocolates and a gift certificate to iTunes. How cool is that. Thank you Diane for being a great pal.

Clue 5 of Spring Shawl Surprice I actually finished on Sunday. Yeah, ahead of schedule. This is an interesting and challenging knit. I hope I can continue to keep up.
Socks that Rock January club sock. I love the colors and the pattern. My sock started off striping and then went to pooling after I added the 2 extra stitches for the pattern. I let it sit for three days before deciding that I could live with the pooling. I normally like pooling but this is not my favorite pooling I've ever had. I am knitting the medium on size 2.25mm needles.

Spring Shawl Surprice

Clue 2 finished. This is a challenging knit for me. Clue 1 went pretty fast but clue 2 is where you start knitting pattern on every row. It was confusing at first but by the time I got to the end it was starting to go pretty. Clue 3 should go pretty fast. I am loving this. I just need to catch up. I would have been okay, but I knit 2/3 of Clue 1 and decided I didn't like my yarn so I had to go to my LYS and get some more. Hope you all are having a great weekend. The sun is shining here.

No pictures today. I have been working on my Spring Shawl Surprice. I was almost finished with Clue one when I decided I did not like the look of the lace. Back to the store and now I using Malabrigo lace. I really like this yarn. I have been trying to organize my room LOL I do not know if it will ever be just like the picture in my head. Too much yarn and fabric. I love to sew and knit but two stashes is almost too much. Right now I am working on a couple of quilts and a French sewn baby dress for a friend. I forgot how much I really enjoy that kind of sewing. I hope everyone is having a good new year. Pictures next time.

Christmas around the World

I received the best package from my pal Dianne for Christmas around the World. The first picture shows the many pretty boxes. Picture number two is the contents. WOW Lotions and bath soaps, pretty heart wash cloth, bath scrubby, pot holder, pretty crochet scarf( can't wait to wear), the cutest Christmas bell ornaments and kleenex box cover. There is chocolate, yarn, and patterns, a nice purse/bag and knitting needles. I got a little book From you Secret Santa, how perfect is that. I Have been Knitting

Week 6 of Secret of the Stole. This is really getting hard to photo. Final photo will have to be done differently. No matter how I photo you can not see the beads. They are there. They show up more than my MS3. They are gold lined.
I have also been knitting on some other secret knitting. I received my Wool Girl sock of the month kit. Jennifer adds alot of little extras. Stitch marker, teas, honey sticks and the cutest magnet card. I loved it all.I hope to get to start my Lenore socks soon.

As you can see, I received a great package from my pal, Megan. She read my blog and figured out that Christmas is my favorite holiday. She sent an awesome Christmas themed package. A ball band dish cloth( my first one), some pretty green cashmere blend yarn - very soft-. Some scrapbooking papers and stickers, a note pad, gummy bears, lavender soap, Christmas cookies ( they are eaten now) and some Christmas scents.I almost forgot the beautiful stitch markers , they are so nice( they are laying on the dishcloth).Thank you Megan, this was a great package and I can't wait to knit something with the pretty yarn. As you can see the box I received was filled to the top.
There were so many things in the package. Candy, not much left now. Two great coffee mugs and some tea. Stickers and some chocolate covered espresso beans. Now that it is getting cooler here, it makes me think of apple picking and hay rides. Are you the type that likes to go to participate in all the fall festivities like apple picking, pumpkins, decorating for the fall, hay rides, baking fall goodies, etc. or do you just sit and count the days till Thanksgiving/Christmas/Hanukkah?
I love to go to the Fall Bazaars. They have good food and you can usually find some unique gifts for Christmas.

How about you? Are there any recipes you especially enjoy having in the Fall? Any foods that are seasonal that you especially enjoy? I love pumpkin pie but I do not make from scratch. I like a big bowl of homemade vegetable beef soup.

My Homemade Vegetable Beef Soup Serves a jillion

1 lb. beef (I buy sirloin and cut into small cubes)
1 large can tomatoes (28 oz?)
1 large potato diced
2 carrots sliced
1 medium onion chopped
2 stalks celery diced
1 head cabbage chopped
1 can green peas
1 can green beans
1 can corn
In large stock pot (mine is about 15 inches high) add a little oil and heat. Add the beef and brown. Add the tomatoes, breaking them up and 2 cups of water. Simmer for an hour. Prepare all the fresh veggies in this time. Add to pot and cover with water and let simmer for 3-4 hours.
Add the different cans of veggies and season to taste. Cook for about 30 more minutes. This makes an enormous pot of soup, but freezes well.

It doesn't really feel like Fall here until November. It is still 90 degrees out. What I like about Fall is the evenings being cooler and in the early morning it feels fresh outside. We don't have alot of changing colors, but what we do have is very pretty

When you knit or crochet dishcloths, washcloths or face clothes, what do you use? What size needle or hook? Wood? what type? Metal? Plastic? A specific Brand? Why do you love that needle or hook so much? Is there one you are dying to try? Is there a particular yarn you love and use all the time for cloths? What is so special about it?

I have a couple of sets of needles that I like to use. One is an old set of Boye needles in plastic (maybe Balene 1) and the other is a set of rosewood needles from Turn-of-the -Century in size 8.I love both of them greatly. I usually use Sugar and Cream for kitchen cloths and Luna by Cascade for face cloths. I received a skein of Peaches and Cream from DDOS swap and it seems to be very similar to S&C. I would love to try any other cottons out there.

I do not change the yarns I knit/crochet with the seasons. I just do smaller projects in the summer. No heavy sweaters or afghans.

Good things come to those who are patient. I received my package from Amanda P. today. Due to some medical issues it was a tad late, but it was really worth waiting for. Thank you Amanda.
She sent two dishcloths, one with Australia on it. Some P&C yarn and two skeins of Luna. A pattern for the Australia cloth, some yummy treats from a candy store near her that has been open for nearly 100 years. She made me stitch marker, Yea!!!!!!!!! Those are something I can not make for myself. The soap smells wonderful and I love the bag she sent. In other words I love everything. Thank you again Amanda.

1. Do you knit or crochet? How long have you been doing it? I have been knitting in earnest for about 4 years. I have crocheted for many years.

2. Have you made dishcloths before? Do you use them yourself, give them as gifts, or both? I have made many dishcloths before. I use them and also gift them. I have a couple of friends who want one every time I see them. I keep a stack of them in my sewing room.

3. What's your favorite cotton to make cloths from? What cotton would you like to try that you haven't before ? I usually use Sugar and cream for kitchen cloths. For face cloths I use either Cascade Luna or Auracania Nature cotton.

4. If you knit, do you prefer circular or straight needles? For all, do you prefer wooden, metal, or plastic needles? I prefer straight needles for knitting dishcloths. I have needles I like in all types.

5. What are your favorite colors? Any colors you don't like much? I like most colors with greens and reds being my favs. I do not like purple very much. Ok, very little.

This was a very easy knit and I really liked the weight of the Pure Merino. I will try this shawl in a lace weight soon. The color is like the 2nd and 3rd pictures. The close up is way darker than the yarn is.

1. If you could visit any state in the US, which would it be and why? I would like to visit South Carolina. I have always wanted to go to Charleston because it seems to have so much history.

2. If you could visit any country in the world, other than your own, which would it be and why? I would like to go to Italy or New Zealand. Italy has so much history and romance going on and New Zealand would be more of an adventure.

3. Have you ever driven across several states/providence/countries? I have driven from Texas to Florida and Texas to Mexico.

4. Have you ever visited someplace you consider exotic? Where was it? We went to Martinique on our honeymoon. We then visited the Grenadines. They were very exciting.

5. What was your favorite "travel" vacation? Why? We went to Spain for my in laws 50th. Flying on standby, we flew to Germany and then had to find a way to get to Spain. It was a true adventure and we had a great and momentous time( our anniversary is just one day after my inlaws.

6. Have you ever played tourist in your own home city/state (if international, country)? Explain. My husband and I like to drive around the hill country, staying and eating in small towns. We like trying out the local places to eat. Yarn stores are a must stop event.

7. Are you a museum visitor, beach comer or an amusement seeker? I like the beaches, but I like to visit museums and I am always up for a little adventure.

8. What's your favorite type of yarn? I love soft wools and mohair.

9. What's your least favorite type of yarn? Scratchy acrylic.

10. What items do you like to knit/crochet? Socks and shawls. I knit other things, but those are my favorites

11. What do you pack, knit/crochet wise when you go on vacation? Four or five projects. Pair of socks, something that is mindless, maybe a shawl, dishcloth, some variety.

12. What other crafts do you do/would like to do other than Knit/Crochet? I quilt, and have started rug hooking. I also scrapbook.

13. Are you allergic to anything? (Yarn wise or treat wise) No

14. What is your favorite color? Least Favorite? Reds and greens are my favorites. I really do not like purple.
